Vinifera Cutting Collection & Specifications

RVIC has sourced vines from trials, and from recognised collections across Australia and overseas to establish over 80 ha of vineyards at Monash. These vines are specially grown to promote healthy, high quality cane growth.

Great care is taken by RVIC to ensure a consistently high quality product is supplied. The cutting specification and bud numbers in the table below are provided as a guide, not a guarantee.

Length is measured from the base cut to the top of the cutting without consideration for the position of the top bud.

Grafting grade:   The base cut is made up to 5cm below the base bud.

Planting grade:   The base cut is made within 1cm of the base bud.

Thin grade:        The base cut is made up to 5cm below the base bud.

Diameter is measured approx 5cm below the top of the cutting.

Vinifera Cuttings are bundled into lots of 100. All bundles are labelled and strapped to be processed daily at the Depot.

Benchgraft (BG) grade is suitable for benchgrafting, top working and planting to pots or field nursery.

Thin is suitable for chipbudding nursery vines, benchgrafting of thin rootstocks and top working and planting to pots or field nursery.

Vinifera Planting Grade (PL) - >350mm - 5.0mm to 13.0mm - Avg 3.5 buds

Vinifera Thin Grade (TH) - >350mm - 4.0mm to 6.0mm - Avg 3.5 buds
